On the transport equations of cosmic neutrinos passing through Earth and secondary νμ fluxes

چکیده
The convergence of the iterative solutions of the transport equations of cosmic muon and tau neutrinos propagating through Earth is studied and analyzed. For achieving a fast convergence of the iterative solutions of the coupled transport equations of ντ , ν̄τ and the associated τ ± fluxes, a new semi–analytic input algorithm is presented where the peculiar τ–decay contributions are implemented already in the initial zeroth order input. Furthermore, the common single transport equation for muon neutrinos is generalized by taking into account the contributions of secondary νμ and ν̄μ fluxes due to the prompt τ–decay τ → νμ initiated by the associated tau flux. Differential and total nadir angle integrated upward–going μ + μ+ event rates are presented for underground neutrino telescopes and compared with the muon rates initiated by the primary νμ, ντ and τ fluxes.

TeV NEUTRINOS IN A DENSE MEDIUM
The dispersion relation of energetic (few TeV) neutrinos traversing a medium is studied. We use the real time formalism of thermal field theory and we include the effects from the propagator of the W gauge boson. We consider then the MSW oscillations for cosmic neutrinos traversing the Earth, adopting for the neutrino parameters values suggested by the LSND results. It is found that the νμ flux...
متن کاملSignatures of cosmic tau – neutrinos
The importance and signatures of cosmic tau–(anti)neutrinos have been studied for upward– and downward–going µ − + µ + and hadronic shower event rates relevant for present and future underground water or ice detectors, utilizing the unique and reliable ultrasmall–x predictions of the dynamical (radiative) parton model. Cosmic ν τ + ¯ ν τ fluxes, together with their associated τ − + τ + fluxes, ...
متن کامل2 00 2 Supernova neutrinos : difference of ν μ – ν τ fluxes and conversion effects
The formalism of flavor conversion of supernova neutrinos is generalized to include possible differences in the fluxes of the muon and tau neutrinos produced in the star. In this case the radiatively induced difference of the νμ and ντ potentials in matter becomes important. The νμ and ντ flux differences can manifest themselves in the effects of the Earth matter on the observed νe (ν̄e) signal ...
متن کاملAtmospheric Neutrinos and the Oscillations Bonanza
We are lucky, you and I, to be born here on planet Earth and to have as our birthright the unrestricted use of a splendid neutrino beamline. Truly remarkable is that the originating hadronic primary beam, namely the cosmic ray flux of protons and assorted stable nuclei, is isotropic to high degree. Moreover, the beamline target region, which is the terrestrial atmosphere, is very nearly spheric...
متن کاملNeutrino Observatories Can Characterize Cosmic Sources and Neutrino Properties
Neutrino telescopes that measure relative fluxes of ultrahigh-energy νe, νμ, ντ can give information about the location and characteristics of sources, about neutrino mixing, and can test for neutrino instability and for departures from CPT invariance in the neutrino sector. We investigate consequences of neutrino mixing for the neutrino flux arriving at Earth, and consider how terrestrial meas...
